Application Instructions
Application for the Arabic Language Program is a three-step process:

- Prior to admission, applicants will be contacted by the Arabic Language faculty to make arrangements for this pre-test.
- All students must legibly fill out the Arabic language education form, submitting this and contact information of TWO referrals who we can contact about your application to the address below no later than January 14 for the upcoming year.
- On-campus Arabic Flagship Admission Exam: 1st Friday of February.
- Reading and listening pre-testing takes place at the University of Maryland.
- Applicants who find it more convenient to take this test elsewhere must provide the appropriate proctoring information on the language form and by email to rkrizi@umd.edu. It is the applicant's responsibility to seek and get the consent of the proctor. The test material will be sent by the program and proctors do not need to know Arabic.
- The test has been designed to gauge the level of proficiency in Arabic (reading, listening, and speaking). The minimum required language proficiency required for admission is 1+ (ILR) or Intermediate High (ACTFL).
- Arrangements for an oral proficiency interview (OPI) by telephone will be made with applicants individually by February 27, 2010.

International students and applicants with foreign credentials must submit academic records in the original language with literal English translations. Allow at least three months for evaluation. TOEFL scores are also required for all international applicants. For information on additional documentation required by International Education Services, click here.

The Arabic Language Program application deadlines are as follow:
- Domestic final deadline: January 14
- International final deadline: January 14
Qualifications
The graduate school at University of Maryland requires all admitted graduate students to have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the United States, or the equivalent of a baccalaureate degree in another country. A GPA of 3.0 is required for admission into this program.
Notification
Upon acceptance to the program, students receive written notification from the graduate school. Students also receive an e-mail from the Arabic Language Program, giving instruction on how to confirm admission. Students must confirm admission within 14 days of the formal offer. Program enrollment for both the Professional Master and the Graduate Certificate is limited.
