Enrolled? Complete Before Fall Semester

We’re happy that you’ve chosen to attend the University of Maryland this fall! Enrolled students must complete UMD Health Requirements or Wellness Training before the first day of classes. Failure to comply will result in a registration block or unwanted charges posting to the student account. Other areas will help students get ready for the fall semester!

Medical History and Immunization Record

Students are required to complete the University Health Center Immunization Record Form and submit proof of immunizations online no later than the first day of classes.

Mandatory UMD Health Insurance

The University AUTOMATICALLY enrolls all undergraduate students taking 6 or more credits in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Associated charges post to the student account for which the student is liable unless a waiver is submitted.

COVID-19 Requirements

COVID-19 vaccinations are required for all students, faculty, and staff.

  • For complete information, including deadlines, consequences, and how to submit confirmation of vaccination status or request a waiver, see COVID-19 Vaccine Information.

All incoming freshmen must complete Wellness Training, a series of online courses in Alcohol Education, Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Assault Prevention. Prior to the start of the fall semester, the Division of Student Affairs sends instructions to complete this training to the email associated with the student record. To update contact information, see Mailing or Email Address Change.

Students who enroll in Freshmen Connection are subject to all UMD policies and procedures. Students should review the policies posted on the following UMD websites to understand their obligations as a University of Maryland student.

  1. Visit Testudo
  2. Select Student Schedule
  3. Log in using the directory ID/password
  4. Select Fall 2022

The Office of the Registrar provides video instruction for utilizing Testudo to adjust your schedule.

Add a Course (starting at orientation)

  1. Visit Testudo
  2. Select Registration (Drop/Add)
  3. Log in using the directory ID and password
  4. Select Fall 2022
  5. Enter the course(s) (ex. ENGL101) and section number(s) (ex. FC01, FCW1) into the Drop/Add table and select Submit Changes.
    1. If the course is closed, the system will ask about being placed on the Waitlist/Holdfile (see below).
    2. After completing registration, select View Schedule for a printable course schedule.

Drop a Course (starting at orientation)

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 listed in Add a Course.
  2. Select Drop for the course that you want to drop (located on the right-hand side of the table).
  3. The system will ask to confirm the drop: select Enter to drop the course. Be quite sure because once the course is dropped, the seat becomes available for registration. If the course is full, students must then waitlist.
  4. Students cannot drop all courses. Students must remain registered for at least one course at all times.
  5. The system prevents dropping UNIV100.

The Office of the Registrar provides video instruction for utilizing Testudo to waitlist courses.

Waitlist a Course (starting at orientation)

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 listed in Add a Course.
  2. You’ll get the message about the course being closed. If you wish to add yourself to the waitlist/holdfile, select Add to Waitlist.
    • You'll then be presented with a message regarding the waitlist process. After reading the notice, select Confirm to continue.
  3. Select the section(s) you want to waitlist and select Add to Waitlist.
    • If open sections are available, select Open Sections tab and select which section you would like to add and then select Select button.
  4. NOTE: If you do not type the section number, the system will tell you that there are no open sections for that course and will not give you a waitlist option.
  5. Remember to periodically check the waitlist (from Testudo).
  6. Once the semester starts, you must check the waitlist every day during the schedule adjustment period or else you will be removed from the waitlist.

Waitlist Check-in

  1. Once the semester starts, you must check the waitlist every day during the schedule adjustment period or else you will be removed from the waitlist.
  2. Visit Testudo
  3. Select Waitlist Check-In
  4. Log in using your Directory ID and Password
  5. By logging in you have checked the waitlist. You will see the courses that you waitlisted and your position on the waitlist. If you have received a space in the course, it will note that the course was added to your schedule.

Waitlist Reminders

  • To be eligible for the waitlist/hold file you cannot be registered for any other section of the desired course. If you are currently registered for any other section of the course, you must drop that section before you can be placed on the waitlist. If you remain registered for another section of the same course at the time you waitlist, you will be removed from the waitlists.
  • You may select up to six (6) sections of a course. The first section to become available will be assigned to you by the computer. Since you will now be registered for a section, your name will be removed from the waitlist for that course. If you subsequently refuse the assigned section (by not checking in), that section will be given to the next person waiting for it. You may, at that time, request to be PLACED AT THE END OF THE WAITING LIST FOR ANOTHER SECTION.
  • You cannot waitlist a course that you do not have the math eligibility for (e.g., MATH140 or CHEM135).
  • You cannot waitlist a course if it would take you over 17 credits. However, you may opt to drop a course, waitlist your intended course, and re-add the courses that you had dropped. If you drop a course, you may not be able to get a seat in that course again. Remember, there are other students adding and dropping courses as well and they may take your seat!
  • You cannot waitlist a course that conflicts with something already on your schedule, unless you plan to drop the course that conflicts with the waitlist section at the time the section is received. It is your responsibility to adjust your schedule accordingly.
  • You will not receive notification that you have been added to a course from the waitlist. As stated previously, you will need to check the waitlist periodically and on the first day of classes, you must check-in to the waitlist every day.

Dropping off the Waitlist

  1. Visit Testudo
  2. Select Waitlist Check-In
  3. Select Drop in the block for the course you no longer wish to waitlist.
  4. You'll be presented with a message asking you to confirm your removal from the waiting list. If you wish to remove yourself, select Confirm Drop.
  5. Note: If you receive a space off the waiting list when attempting to drop, you will need to follow the instructions above for Dropping a Course.

You are free to purchase your books through any vendor you wish, however the University Book Center will ensure you get the right book for each class and they price match Amazon and local competitors. If no textbook is listed, either none is required or the instructor has not yet made an assignment.

The Libraries have purchased textbooks for many of the most popular courses on campus.  They are available at the McKeldin Library Services Desk, and you can borrow them for 4 hours at a time. You can search to see if your books are included on the Libraries' Top Textbooks webpage.
