Explanation of Program Fees

Please note: Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other University publication, the University reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees, and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by the University and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Although changes in tuition, fees, and charges ordinarily will be announced in advance, the University reserves the right to make such changes without prior announcement.

Program Tuition

  • Tuition is charged at the per-credit Maryland in-state rate for Post-Baccalaureate Program-admitted students. There is no “flat rate.” Program students may not use program course sections for inclusion in determining “full-time status.” Program students who register for non-program courses are charged tuition based on their residency classification. Residency determinations are made according to the Board of Regents Policy on Student Residency Classification.

On-Campus Undergraduate Student Services Fee

  • Fall and Spring (16-Week) Semesters: Assessed to students based on the number of registered credits for a given semester for courses on campus. Supports campus facilities use and maintenance, health services, campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center, shuttle bus, libraries, police, computer labs, writing language labs, and disability support services. The fee is refunded in accordance with the refund schedule upon cancellation or withdrawal. See Undergraduate Tuition and Fees for the fee breakdown.
  • Summer Term (Sessions I and II):  Assessed one-time for course registration within each of the two six-week summer sessions (Session I or Session II) and for any course registration that requires a student to come to the UMD campus. Supports campus facilities use and maintenance, health services, campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center, shuttle bus, libraries, police, computer labs, writing language labs, and disability support services.

Other UMD Fees

Course Fees: In addition to tuition, some courses charge an additional fee—lab, studio, or materials. Course fees should be noted on Testudo and may run $40 to $60 per course. The fee will post to the student account as a separate charge.

Late Registration Fee: $20.00. Charged to any student who registers for their first class on or after the first day of the semester/term.

Record Adjustment Fee: $100.00. For all adjustments to your student record that are received after the end of a specific term or semester in which you are registered. This includes all requests for registration and/or withdrawal.

Financial Aid & Alternative Payment

State and/or Federal Financial Aid: Program students are admitted to UMD as non-degree seeking post-baccalaureate students. The programs are non-degree programs. Financial aid is not available to non-degree-seeking students. Alternative or private loans may be an option. See Office of Student Financial Aid.

Terp Payment Plan (TPP): A convenient alternative to lump sum tuition payments. By enrolling in the Terp Payment Plan, you can make monthly payments with no interest!

Veterans: Post-Baccalaureate Programs are non-degree seeking. As such, these programs are not Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) approved educational programs. If you have questions, contact UMD’s Veterans Certification Office at vabenefits@umd.edu.

Tuition Remission Policy: Tuition remission does not cover mandatory student services or other fees. UMD System employees must contact their home institution’s Human Resource office for authorization. UMD College Park employees needing information on tuition remission, see UMCP UHR Tuition Remission.

Third Party/Sponsored Billing: Third Party/Sponsored Billing is when a private or government agency is paying any portion of your tuition or fees and are requesting a bill from the University.
