The Graduate Certificate in Special Education for General Education Teachers in Inclusive Classrooms (GC-Special Education) provides the evidence-based instructional strategies and effective behavioral interventions required to serve students with disabilities in inclusive classrooms. The skills gained through this program will equip participants to better serve ALL students in their schools.  GC-Special Education is offered by the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE) in the College of Education. 

GC-Special Education is a 15-credit program designed to be completed in as little as 12 months while minimally disrupting personal and professional life.  The program features online instruction, offering flexibility and accessibility that fits in with personal and professional responsibilities.  UMD’s online learning environment delivers online content through easy to use web-based technology that enables learning in an engaging, interactive environment.  Instruction is provided by College of Education faculty and experts in the field.   GC-Special Education uses the semester academic calendar:  fall and spring semester (16 weeks each) and Summer Session (two 6-week sessions).
