Registration Information

Meet Times | Instructions | Considerations

Determine Course Meeting Dates and Times

  1. Visit Testudo.
  2. Select Schedule of Classes.
  3. In the box marked Term: Select your specific term and year.
  4. Select Search.
  5. A listing of all departments offering courses for that term/year will appear.
  6. Scroll down and click on COMM.
  7. Scroll down to the course and select Show Sections.
  8. Courses use section PG** (Umbrella) or XG** (Extension)
    • ​​Note:  Online delivery section begins with PDG*

Registration Instructions

  1. Visit Testudo.
  2. Click on Registration (Drop/Add).
  3. Log in with your Directory ID and password.
  4. Select the appropriate term.
  5. Umbrella (ex. COMM609) Course Registration:
    • Enter the course(s) (ex. COMM609) and section number(s) (ex. PG01) and Regular grading method into the Drop/Add Table and click Submit Changes.
      • A message may appear in the course block.
      • Read the message then click Ok to add the course.
  6. Extension (ex. COMM609A) Course Registration:
    • Enter the course(s) and section number(s) (ex. XGE1) and Audit grading method into the Drop/Add Table and click Submit Changes.
      • A message may appear in the course block.
      • Read the message then click Ok to add the course.
      • Registering for multiple extension of the same course (i.e. COMM609B XGA1 and XGE1):
        • Add one of the two sections (i.e. XGA1) and then email with your full name, UID, and request to be added to the other section (include course and section details, i.e. COMM609B XGe1).
    • Credit Note: Course(s)/Section(s) can only be registered for the minimum and maximum credits listed on the Schedule of Classes. If a course has a range of 2-6, the minimum credits that can be added is 2, even if programmatically you are taking the course for 1 credit.
  7. To view your schedule when complete, click View Schedule.

Audit Grading Method

Courses registered on Audit will show on the student transcript, but a student will not receive a grade for these courses nor are they charged for them. The final course grades are listed in the Umbrella course.

Important Considerations

Students should visit  Academic & Financial Deadlines to determine when registration opens and closes, and for cancellation, drop, and withdrawal deadlines. Here are other considerations:

  • Students admitted to a the Graduate Studies in Interpreting and Translation (GSIT) are required to maintain continuous enrollment for courses as outlined in the plan of study. See Academic Policies for a Waiver of Continuous Registration or Leave of Absence.
  • Students Provisionally Admitted on an Unofficial Transcript: Official transcripts indicating receipt of the degree must be submitted before the end of the first semester. Registration for a second semester will not be permitted unless these documents are received by the Graduate School.
  • Students in face-to-face or blended programs are required to submit UMD’s Medical History and Immunization Record form prior to the first day of their first semester. 
  • GSIT students have the following program requirements:
    • Maintain minimum of 3.0 GPA and a B or better (including B-) for courses that are required.
    • File approved Plan of Study by semester of 6th credit (first semester for full-time students).
    • Submit all work specified within an incomplete contract by end of the semester following the awarded incomplete unless otherwise specified in the incomplete contract.
    • Not found responsible for breaching ethical principles of scholarship (e.g., violations of academic integrity and/or intellectual property rights) or non-compliance of protocols for protection of human subjects.
    • Complete required GC course work within three years of matriculation.
    • Complete required MPS course work within five years of matriculation.
