MPS in Technology Entrepreneurship

Google. Under Armour. Sirius XM Radio. Polycom. Squarespace. Launching a new venture takes more than a great idea. It takes the know-how to run the gauntlet of getting that idea off the ground. In the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship, you’ll gain the insights and competencies to meet those challenges head on.

The Master of Professional Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship (MPS-TE) pairs an enriching academic experience with the skills and relationships of UMD’s world-class startup incubators. In this program, students apply newly gained insights and acquired competencies to real-world innovation management challenges across five major stages of the innovation value chain—from strategy development and idea generation to commercial concept and product development and successful market establishment, as well as sustainable growth in various contexts. Instruction is provided by UMD faculty and experts in the field. MPS-TE equips students with a practical understanding of the principles and techniques for effective new venture creation and launch.

MPS-TE is offered through UMD’s online learning environment, using a 12-week calendar format which benefits working professionals with flexibility, convenience, and accessibility. The 30-credit, nine course program can be completed in as little as 15 months while minimally disrupting personal and professional life. In a 12-week term, students complete course work (6 credits) in 11 weeks; week 12 is reserved for finals.

Students should visit Calendars & Deadlines to determine term schedule start and end dates as well as deadlines for cancellation or withdrawal. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required to maintain good academic progress for graduation. Students are responsible for keeping track of their progress and should review their academic record to ensure accuracy.

MPS-TE is offered through the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech) in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. A national leader in entrepreneurship education and venture creation, UMD’s comprehensive entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem is uniquely positioned for students to acquire the knowledge, competencies, and relationships to solve today’s and tomorrow’s innovation challenges.
