Summer Session payment policy does not follow the standard fall/spring semester plan. Students are not billed. Should successful payment not post by the summer deadlines, the student may be canceled. See Summer Session Payment Policy.

Tuition and fee rates apply to courses beginning with the following sections: 01**, 02**, 03**, 04**, 05**, 06**, WB**, HY**, I1**, I2**. Other section numbers may have program-specific tuition and students should contact the specific program to determine tuition and fees.

Explanation of Tuition and Fees

Tuition: Charged at the per credit rate based on student type (undergraduate/graduate) and residency. Determination of residency status for tuition is made according to the Board of Regents Policy on Student Residency Classification.

On-Campus Mandatory Student Services Fee: Charged for any course registration that requires students to come to campus, even if only for one class meeting. The on-campus fee is assessed one time for courses taken within each of the two six-week summer sessions (Sessions I and I-A or I-B combined, or Sessions II and II-C or II-D combined). Covers student support services including campus facilities use and maintenance, health services, campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center, shuttle bus, libraries, police, computer labs, writing language labs, and disability support services.

Off-Campus Mandatory Student Services Fee: Charged for any course registration that does not require students to come to campus (e.g., internships, courses offered completely online). In addition, this fee applies to students who enroll in a non-credit workshop. Assessed one time for courses taken within each of the two six-week sessions (Sessions I and I-A or I-B combined, or Sessions II and II-C or II-D combined). Covers student support services that include campus-wide technology services and student registration services.

Shady Grove Student Services Fee: Applies to students enrolled in a Shady Grove course (section code 01Zx or 02Zx). Covers summer support services at the Shady Grove location that includes campus facilities use and maintenance, health services, campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center, shuttle bus, libraries, police, computer labs, writing language labs, and disability support services. Applied once per session during Summer Session regardless of how many courses/credits are taken. If students are enrolled in these sections only, they are not assessed the College Park campus’ student services fees. If students are enrolled in College Park campus sections in addition to these sections, then both sets of student services fees will be assessed.

Please Note: Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other University publication, the University reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by the University and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Although changes in tuition, fees and charges ordinarily will be announced in advance, the University reserves the right to make such changes without prior announcement.

In addition to tuition, some courses charge an additional fee—lab, studio, or materials. Course fees should be noted on Testudo and may run $40 to $60 per course. The fee will post to the student account as a separate charge.

Other University Fees

Processing Fee: A 2.0% processing fee will be assessed for all credit and debit card transactions. There is NO processing fee for ACH (electronic check) payments. For complete information, click here.

Application Fee: $75. Visiting (non-UMD) students are required to pay the non-refundable application fee.

Record Adjustment Fee: $100. For all adjustments to your student record received and processed after the end of a specific Summer Session (session I or II) in which you were registered or for Winter Session. Record adjustment requests require a formal Exception to Academic Policy.
