Terp Discovery has a three-step application process. Acceptance into Discovery does not guarantee admission into a degree-seeking program at UMD. Program admission is competitive and contingent upon space availability. Early applicants are more likely to receive their first-choice course.

  • Application
  • Report Card
    • A report card detailing applicant's academic record must include grades and cumulative GPA for all schoolwork completed. An unofficial report card is acceptable. Applicants may directly upload report cards to the Terp Discovery application or fax/mail per instructions on the report card cover sheet. 
  • Health Insurance Information Form
    • All students must have health insurance to participate in Terp Discovery. During the application process, applicants must complete the Health Insurance Information Form and provide copies of health insurance cards.

Upon the offer of admission, student and parent must complete the Confirmation of Admission by the posted due date. The process includes payment. Should confirmation not be completed by the due date, the offer of admission will be rescinded.

Eligibility for Terp Discovery

To apply and participate, a student must:

  • Be a rising sixth, seventh or eighth grade student;
  • Have a strong academic background; and
  • Demonstrate maturity, self-discipline, motivation, and a desire to succeed.

Notification

Accepted Discovery Scholars are notified via email approximately 10 days after their file is complete. The file is complete when the application (with non-refundable application fee), report card, and Health Insurance Information Form have been received.

Files are reviewed and admission made on a first-come, first-served basis. Reminder notices regarding missing items are sent to the email address provided on the application form. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all materials are sent and received. To inquire about the status of your application, email discovery@umd.edu.
