Scholarships

Terp Scholars offers a limited number of need-based financial scholarships. Awards are competitive and made on a first-come, first-served basis, based on funding availability. Awards are made on a rolling basis. Awards do not cover 100% of the program’s costs. Students who received an award in a previous year are not eligible for subsequent years.

The Terp Young Scholars program application and Terp Young Scholars scholarship application are separate. Students must first submit a program application and receive acceptance to Terp Young Scholars before applying for a scholarship. Incomplete scholarship applications, or scholarship applications from students not accepted to Terp Young Scholars, will not be reviewed.

To apply, see Terp Young Scholars Scholarship Application [The TYS 2019 application will be available in late Febuary 2019]. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is April 1. Students are notified by May 1. If you have questions, email ysp@umd.edu.

Scholarship awards are determined as follows:

  1. Admission into Terp Young Scholars.
  2. Submission of complete scholarship application. Incomplete forms will not be considered.
  3. Merit. I.e., based on information within scholarship application.
  4. Student GPA.
  5. Funding availability.
