Program Package Fees 2019

$ 3,850: Residential Package Fee (composed of the following):

  • Course Tuition: $1,101
    Tuition charged at the approved Summer Session 2019 per credit rate of $367 x 3 credits.
  • Campus Student Services Fee: $280
    Covers campus facilities use and maintenance; health services; campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center; shuttle bus; libraries; police; computer labs, Writing language labs; and disability support services.
  • Residential Program Fee: $2,469
    Covers field trip transportation costs; campus tours and workshops; social activities and events; 19 nights lodging (single, double, triple or quad) in an air-conditioned residence hall (arrival July 7, check-out July 26 by 6 p.m.); and meals (19 breakfasts, 17 lunches, and 19 dinners). Please note: Residential students are responsible for 2 weekend lunches.

$ 2,650: Commuter Package Fee (composed of the following):

  • Course Tuition: $1,101
    Tuition charged at the approved Summer Session 2019 per credit rate of $367 x 3 credits.
  • Campus Student Services Fee: $280
    Covers campus facilities use and maintenance; health services; campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center; shuttle bus; libraries; police; computer labs, Writing language labs; and disability support services.
  • Commuter Program Fee: $1,269
    Covers field trip transportation costs; campus tours and workshops; social activities and events; and 15 weekday lunches (July 8-26).

$ 4,050: International Residential Package Fee (composed of the following):

  • Course Tuition: $1,101
    Tuition charged at the approved Summer Session 2019 per credit rate of $367 x 3 credits.
  • Campus Student Services Fee: $280
    Covers campus facilities use and maintenance; health services; campus-wide technology services, student registration services, recreation center; shuttle bus; libraries; police; computer labs, Writing language labs; and disability support services.
  • International Residential Program Fee: $2,669
    Covers field trip transportation costs; campus tours and workshops; social activities and events; 19 nights lodging (single, double, triple or quad) in an air-conditioned residence hall (arrival July 7, check-out July 26 by 6 p.m.); and meals (19 breakfasts, 17 lunches, and 19 dinners); a linen package that include one fitted and one top sheet for a twin-size bed, one blanket, one pillowcase, two towels, and one washcloth ), and a mailing fee. Please note: Residential students are responsible for 2 weekend lunches.

Other Fees

Course Fees: Several courses in Terp Young Scholars charge an additional fee. Complete information regarding this additional fee is noted within the course description.

  • ARCH 150 Supply Fee: $110
  • BIOE 160 Lab Fee: $90
  • ENFP102 Supply Fee: $30

Non-refundable Application Fee: $75

Course Textbooks

Textbook requirements are posted by the instructor, usually three weeks prior to the course start date. Your course may or may not require a textbook, and you will need to periodically check the link below to see if the instructor has posted a textbook. Textbooks may be purchased from any textbook store or online vendor. Please note: The campus bookstore is closed Sundays during Summer Session.

Scholarships

Terp Young Scholars offers a limited number of partial financial scholarships. Awards are competitive and based on funding availability. Awards will not exceed 40% of the program package fee. Students who received an award in a previous year are not eligible for subsequent years.

Before Applying for a TYS Scholarship:

The Terp Young Scholars program application and Terp Young Scholars scholarship application are separate. Students must first submit a program application and receive acceptance to Terp Young Scholars before applying for a scholarship. Incomplete scholarship applications, or scholarship applications from students not accepted to Terp Young Scholars, will not be reviewed.

Scholarship Components:

A complete scholarship application includes:

  1. Online scholarship application form,
  2. ID # (UID) to verify student has received admission into Terp Young Scholars (UID # can be found at the top right corner of the Terp Young Scholars acceptance letter),
  3. Federal Income Tax Return, and
  4. Personal Statement

Scholarship Application:

Scholarship applications are now closed and will reopen in February 2020.

Scholarship Deadlines:

  • Priority Deadline - Scholarship applications submitted by April 1 will receive priority consideration. Scholarship decisions for applications submitted by April 1 will be notified by April 20.
  • Final Deadline - The final deadline to submit a scholarship application is May 1. Scholarship decisions for applications submitted by May 1 will be notified by May 20.

Tuition Remission

Terp Young Scholars courses are eligible for tuition remission. Tuition remission only applies to tuition and does not cover student services fees, program fees (commuter or residential), or course-related fees. Dependents of University System employees must use their student’s SSN on the Terp Young Scholars application as the system only recognize dependents through the SSN. University of Maryland System employees must receive authorization from their home institution. Additional information on tuition remission can be found on the University Human Resources website

Tuition & Fee Note

Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other University publication, the University reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees, and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by the University and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Although changes in tuition, fees, and charges ordinarily will be announced in advance, the University reserves the right to make such changes without prior announcement.
