Cancellation, Withdrawal, & Refunds


Deadlines, definitions, and concomitant consequences associated with program cancellation, course cancellation, and withdrawal appear below. All requests must be received in writing via email, containing student name and UID#, to tys@umd.edu.

Cancellation, Withdrawal, & Refund Schedule Deadlines
Program Cancellation, 100% refund June 20
Course Cancellation, 100% refund tuition & fees, only July 11
Course Withdrawal, 80% refund tuition & fees, only July 12
Program Withdrawal, No refund July 24

Program Cancellation Means

  • Cancellation of program participation on or before June 20.
  • Course registration will be canceled and will not appear on the student record.
  • Residential or commuter program registration will be canceled.
  • Receive a 100% refund for course tuition, the distance learning student services fee, and the online program fee.

Course Cancellation Means

  • Cancellation of program participation between June 21 and the first day of class.
  • Course registration will be canceled and will not appear on the student record.
  • Receive a 100% refund only for course tuition and the distance learning student services fee.
  • No refund for the online program fee.

Withdrawal Means

  • Termination of program participation between the first day and the last day of classes.
  • Course registration information remains on the student record with a notation of withdrawn. Neither grade nor credits attempted will appear on transcript.
  • If withdrawn on the first day, receive an 80% refund only for course tuition and the distance learning student services fee.
  • If withdrawn after the first day of classes, no refund.

Refunds

Refunds post to the student financial record as a credit. To obtain this credit/refund, you need to submit a formal request. See Student Financial Services—Refunds Overview—Other Refunds.
