Graduation and Diplomas
Deadlines
Students must apply for graduation no later than the end of the schedule adjustment period at the beginning of the semester in which they intend to graduate. See the Graduate School’s Graduation and Academic Deadlines.
- Students may graduate at the end of the fall, spring, or summer semester.
- Student who will complete degree requirements in the winter session / term should apply for spring graduation.
- Students enrolled in programs that use the term calendar should note that the deadline to apply for spring graduation is BEFORE the start of spring 12-week term.
Graduate Degree Clearance Services in the Office of the University Registrar is responsible for assessment and approval. Deadlines are strictly enforced.

The University hosts one commencement ceremony each May which includes graduates from the previous summer, fall, and current spring semester. The Commencement website has complete information, including dates, College and School ceremonies, regalia ordering, guidelines, and more.
Students in Online Programs
The University welcomes students graduating from an online program to participate in the commencement ceremony. Student should inform their academic program director of their intention to participate.
International Students in Online Programs
Generally, students who are not citizens of the United States must obtain a visitor visa (B1, B2, or combination) to enter the United States to participate in the commencement ceremony. There are several steps to apply for a visa, which vary by U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Students should consult the instructions on the U.S. Embassy or Consulate website. The University does not provide sponsorship letters.
