Program Overview

IN PERSON

Industrial Organizational (IO) Psychology is the study of people in formal organizations, including the workplace. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Industrial Organizational psychology is the fastest-growing occupation in the U.S. IO psychologists work throughout industry – in consulting, human resources and training departments, government, research, and academia – to improve the well-being and outcomes of employees and organizations. IO psychologists also help organizations recruit, hire, train, retain, evaluate, and promote the best talent; cultivate and change organizational processes and culture; develop leaders; drive business decisions using theory and data; and improve diversity and inclusion efforts and impact in organizations.

The Master of Professional Studies in Industrial/Organizational Psychology is designed to make you an invaluable member of the workplace team in virtually any setting. Through evidence-based best practices and the ability to ask and answer the questions that matter, you’ll improve your marketable expertise and statistical skills, and graduate to a new world of career flexibility, mobility and advancement. Offered through the Department of Psychology in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

The program offers an in-person/hybrid cohort and a 100% online learning cohort (Spring start). The curriculum for both cohort options is identical. Designed for working professionals, students can earn a University of Maryland degree while continuing to work full-time with minimal disruption to personal and professional life. Students with specific academic questions may contact Dr. Nikita Arun, via email: iomps@umd.edu.
