The program uses the semester academic calendar with classes held in the fall and spring semester (16 weeks each) and Summer Session (two 6-week sessions).

Program Tuition

  • Tuition is assessed at the University-approved per credit program rate for course section registration beginning with PDE* (online) and PGE* (in-person).

UMD Technology Fee, Online/Off-Site Delivery

  • Assessed based on the total number of registered credits each semester/term for courses held 100% online or for courses not held at UMD’s College Park campus. Supports UMD technology services. See UMD Online Resources.

  • Notwithstanding any other provision of this or any other University publication, the University reserves the right to make changes in tuition, fees, and other charges at any time such changes are deemed necessary by the University and the University System of Maryland Board of Regents. Although changes in tuition, fees, and charges ordinarily will be announced in advance, the University reserves the right to make such changes without prior announcement.
  • The U.S. Department of Education has provided grant funding for tuition scholarships to all members of the graduate student cohort. Scholarships are assured for the 5 years of the program. The total scholarship award is approximately $40,000 for each scholar. There is a “Service Obligation” requirement attached to the scholarship tuition funds.
